Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the MHS Prom at Gillette Stadium. I can’t overstate how wonderful this night was for our students and staff and I so enjoyed seeing almost 550 students enjoying a fabulous night together. As a community, we should all be proud of how well our students represented MPS and the Town of Milton!
Thank you to all of the MPS families and our six PTOs for your continued support and celebration of the entire MPS staff this week. It has been most appreciated!

MHS Spring Fling: MHS Student Government is excited to be hosting a Spring Fling Dance for all freshmen and sophomores on Friday, May 13th from 6-8 in the MHS Courtyard. Tickets are $10 and available in school. Please see the sign up genius linked here to help out – more volunteers (just 90 minutes of set up) are needed to make this event a success!
Parent/Guardian English Class: The class will meet at MHS from 6-7 pm on Tuesday and Thursday between May 17 and June 23. This class is free for MPS parents/guardians. Interested? Email email@example.com.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
COVID Updates: MPS has reported 33 new student cases and 6 staff cases to DPH for previous reporting period (April 28- May 4) with the following breakdown per school. HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
Students in Ms. Lee’s Design Studio class learned about hand lettering and calligraphy by designing one of their favorite quotes, words or alphabet. Students developed their knowledge and skills in typography by making decisions on the alignment of their text, letter spacing, leading, and rag besides choosing a font or calligraphy hand to represent the meaning of their words or letters. Other design elements were included like drop caps, color, texture and illustrations for their final pieces.
The MHS Internship Program is in full swing and our students are beginning their placements this week.
We have seven students at BID-Milton scheduled for rotations throughout the hospital. They will be familiarizing themselves with Radiology, Emergency, Human Resources, Rehab/EHS, Medical Records, Dietary, Pharmacy and Surgical Services. Tuesday evening they participated in a three hour orientation where they were advised of expectations and received their lab coats and badges.
Starting this week two of our interns will be working remotely with the Milton Times attending brainstorming meetings, researching and editing procedures and the entire operational overview of running a journalistic paper.
One intern is working at the Eustis Estate, assisting in the operation of a historic house museum, including planning and running public programs, installing a special exhibition in the galleries, and working on updates to their interactive tour technology.
We also have two interns working within the town’s Consolidated Facilities department where they will rotate buildings and see what it takes to keep our many buildings operational and in good condition.
Thank you to the many supporters of this exciting program including the Milton Chamber of Commerce, Milton School Committee, MPS administration and staff and the community at large. We will be showcasing our student interns’ success at the end of May with a thank you celebration.
This year’s Pierce science fair was filled with many interesting STEM projects. Congratulations to our students who received an Outstanding designation!

Seventh grade FUSE students Camilla Abboud, Maddie King, and Maya Mitchell took the skills they learned on the FUSE challenge Selfie Sticker to create sweatshirts for themselves and a few friends using heat transfer vinyl! It’s great to see students extending these challenges on their own!
Eighth grade students in Mrs. Magill’s Advanced FUSE class recently completed a challenge creating a raft which would be pulled by a Sphero in a pool of water. They needed to design and build this raft using only certain materials which they could not have replaced if they ruined them. Completing this challenge forced them to think differently in order to problem solve. Click HERE to watch the video to see the Spheros and rafts in action!
INSIDE OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Members of the Glover Fundraising Student Leadership Team (SLT) have been working together to support a variety of fundraising efforts this year. Most recently, the team partnered with the Gotta Have Sole Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide homeless youth with brand new shoes to help them feel confident and comfortable. The students organized a fundraiser to buy new shoes for children living in shelters. The goal of their work aligns with the widely held belief at Glover that everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, supported and loved. The group learned that it’s common for homeless children to have to wear worn-out shoes and/or shoes that don’t fit. The Glover community rallied around this group of students to support their important work. They raised over 700 dollars and collected hundreds of pairs of socks. Additionally, all Glover students had the opportunity to make cards with messages of hope that will be delivered with the shoes.
Glover’s SLTs provide 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to work alongside their peers in leadership roles around a topic or cause that interests them. There are currently over 10 Student Leadership Teams in place. Way to go Glover Kids!

Wednesday was a terrific day for Walk and Bike to School Day! Thank you to all who participated.
MPS concerts have not disappointed this spring and the Collicot K-1 concert this week was no exception. Thank you to Mr. Good and his young singers for a wonderful concert!
ART AND MUSIC
Congratulations to the 2022-23 Captains and Drum Majors of the Wildcat Marching Band! These hard working students have been integral members of the WMB and were selected based on their outstanding musical, marching and leadership contributions to the ensemble. Our ’22-’23 leadership team members are: Cologuard Captains- Angel Leggett and Maeve Garvin; Percussion Captain- Bella Fiske; Drum Majors- Sampreeti Fitton, Sam McLaughlin, Brynne Mershon, and Claudia O’Neill.
The Wildcat Marching Band is open to any Milton High School student! Any student entering grades 9-12 who are interested in joining the Wildcat Marching Band should fill out the form found here and reach out to Mrs. Damiani with any questions at email@example.com. Come join us and be a part of our 2022-’23 show “The Sky’s the Limit”!
To gear up for ‘School Lunch Hero’ day on May 6, we want to showcase our fabulous kitchen managers at all 6 schools. The kitchen staff certainly deserves our appreciation as they have all worked so hard this year to make sure all of our students are well fed!
Last week we let families know that the Milton Coalition along with their partners MPS, MPD and BID did not renew their contract with Interface Referral Service. The coalition shared some alternate family support resources including Therapy Matcher, Compass Helpline, Quincy Family Resource Center (including Milton), Aspire Health Alliance and New Directions Counseling Center which we have added to our Family Resource Newsletter. This week the coalition has provided some tips for finding a mental health professional to work with you or your child that we wanted to pass along.

Unified Track will travel to Needham tomorrow for their penultimate meet. They host Weymouth next week on Thursday, May 12th for their last meet of the season and we want to pack the stands!!
Rugby will host Hanover on Friday night at 5:30pm. Milton and Hanover have battled back and forth over the last five years for Rugby supremacy in the South Shore, so it should be a great game!
Baseball responded from their loss to Natick with a comeback win over #9 ranked Walpole 7-3. Charlie Walker earned his fourth win of the year.
The Varsity Athletic Outdoor Celebration will take place on Saturday, May 14th at 10am at Brooks Field! All student-athletes receiving a Varsity Letter are invited! See attached for the flyer.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is organizing “Cats Clean the Cage” on Saturday, May 7th at 12pm. All spring student-athletes will help clean Brooks Field of trash and old equipment. Thank you to the members of SAAC for organizing this event!

On Saturday May 7th at 2:30pm, join Ms. Tory for Create-A-Story: Kamishibai. Kamishibai, (kah-mee-she-bye) or “paper-theater,” is a form of Japanese street theater that was popular during the 1930s. During this program we will learn all about this visual form of storytelling, and you will get a chance to create your own Kamishibai play!
Then, put your building skills to the test at LEGO Club (ages 6-12) on Wednesday, May 11 at 4:30pm. Construct a themed LEGO scene, and find your finished creations on display in the Children’s Room for the rest of the month!

Join the community at “Let’s Celebrate our Kevin”, a fundraiser in memory of Milton resident Kevin Moore. Kevin was the son of Elaine Moore, who is a beloved member of the MHS Cafeteria staff and the family is holding a fundraiser to raise money for a Scholarship in Kevin’s name. Kevin died tragically in 2016 and a Scholarship was set up in his name shortly thereafter. Kevin was a kind-hearted, fun loving young man who enjoyed his family, his friends, and working with his hands. Kevin was a graduate of Blue Hills Tech and a budding electrician. Please join us as we raise money to support another student’s desire to work in the Trades. All details can be found here.
On May 14 at 10 am, the Glover PTO invites the entire Milton community to a new road race, Katie’s Grace+Grit 5K.
Katie Crowell was a dedicated member of our Milton community who gave 100% of herself in service to others. She was an advocate, a runner, a volunteer, a fundraiser, a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. This amazing woman was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in 2015 while 32 weeks pregnant.
Please join us in a very special 5k so we may honor Katie and continue raising funds to support cancer charities. Come show us your Grace + GRIT! All details and registration info can be found at this link.
Brookwood Community Farm’s annual Seedling Sale is Saturday May 7, 11 am – 3 pm and Sunday May 8 from 9 am – 3 pm. Please bring your own containers to carry your purchases. Cash, credit card and EBT is accepted. Our parking lot is limited so extra parking is available at Meditech next door on Saturday and at Trinity Church on Sunday. A farm shuttle can bring your purchases to those off site lots.
In addition to shopping, we welcome volunteers for the sale. Sign up to help out here. This is open to HS students, needing volunteer hours or not, and adults.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten: Will your child be attending kindergarten in the fall? This parent workshop is for you and is open to all parents/caregivers; your child will not need to attend Milton Public Schools to participate. We will be sharing many tips and helpful hints to make your child’s transition to kindergarten a smooth one. This workshop will be held virtually, via Zoom, from the comfort of your home on May 11th at 7:00 PM. Registration is required. Register and obtain the Zoom link and passcode here.
Literacy Fun Through STEAM with the Easton Children’s Museum: Calling all future Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, Artists, and Mathematicians! Activities will be age appropriate for children 3 to 7 years old with a parent or guardian. We will be holding two sessions in person at Discovery Schoolhouse, 101 Blue Hills Parkway.
